CES and Metro Engineering Solutions (MES) Design, Build, and Upgrade City of Detroit Lighting Infrastructure
Opportunity
Working directly under the Public Lighting Authority (PLA) of Detroit, CES has designed and constructed 38,000 overhead fed streetlights and 6,000 underground fed lights in a span of two years. The process we used allowed us to work seamlessly and with complete transparency on a highly complex project with strict oversight under a compressed timeframe. Utilizing the latest design techniques in ESRI, our in-house engineering firm was able to share design plans with CES and the PLA in a format allowing for the ID of potential physical conflicts prior to creating construction estimates and submitting construction drawings for permits.
Result
Creating all of the designs within ESRI allowed the PLA to identify key milestone date management and invoicing data points to be shared with the owner’s representative and project scheduling tools. CES created a data collection process using ESRI-enabled tablets to capture completed work operations and billing units that produces a map and unit billing data for the customer to review and approve prior to invoicing. CES also creates QC maps using the same data for the owner’s rep to utilize while inspecting the completed work.
